The Story

Granny Smith is a retired British culinary arts teacher who, after years of teaching in the UK, followed her passion for France and settled in Savoie. As she goes about her daily life, she shares stories of her family, her activities, and her love for cooking—sometimes in English, sometimes in French, and often with both languages combined.

Interactive and Educational

This performance is designed to explore language learning in a playful and interactive way.

Live Cooking

Tracey Boot sings in English while translating and cooking a real apple crumble on stage

Audience Participation

The audience is invited to join in, through song, a warm up and cooking.

Delicious Finale

The show concludes with a tea finale, where Granny Smith shares her favorite Yorkshire tea.

“A marvellous piece of children’s Fringe theatre.”
— Mark Brown, The National

“A completely charming English lesson for French speakers… disguised as a tale about a day in the life of slightly dotty Granny Smith.” — Joyce McMillan, The Scotsman

“I loved it and felt really that this was a very good example of when theatre for education is working, it is working pretty damn well. ”  by Donald Stewart, “Highly Recommended Show” Fringe review
